We three Ealing Road School Chums
(Peter Butler, Jimmy Hunt, Peter Rutt)
finally met up at the Brentford Half
Acre on Sunday 3rd August 2003 at 1-45pm.
We were very active talking about the
old Days, it was good to see each other.
The last time we were all together was
about 1943, 60 years ago. Afterwards
Peter & Jim went on a walk along the
Brentford Canal to Boston Manor Park
with the Hounslow local history group.
OLD FRIENDS reunited through Times newspaper
(Newspaper clipping) TWO friends who hadn’t
seen each other for sixty years were re-united
recently after one of them had his picture
published in the Brentford, Chiswick & Isleworth
Times. Twickenham resident, Peter Butler was
contacted by his old school chum and Bedfont
resident Jimmy Hunt, who use to live at 2 Vale
Cottages, Ealing Road, Brentford, after Jimmy
saw Peter’s picture in the paper. The two had
been school mates at Ealing Infant & Junior
School, before going on to Brentford Senior School, which both left
at the age of 14 in 1943, when they lost touch. Mr Butler said "Jim
started employment at a factory on the Great West Road called Coty, who
manufacture perfume and cosmetics. I was sent to Twickenham Junior Technical
College by my parents on a three year, full time building Course. After
not seeing each other for sixty years. I now see Jim and his wife Rose,
occasionally when attending walks around the borough of Hounslow’s local
history groups. Our next trip is along the Grand union canal’s towpath to
Boston Manor Park all part of strolling along Memory Lane, especially
those war time days."
"THE BUTLERS 1945"
In the back yard of 1 Bedford Road,
Brentford. Peter aged 16 and his sister
Sue aged 22. The rear wall on the right,
is that of the Windsors detached house,
opposite the Pottery Arms Pub. Sue went
to the Blue School, Ealing. Peter built
his bycycle, using bits & pieces.
Peter Butlers mum owned a shop at the corner
of Bedford Road. The picture shows a woman
talking to a young child, in fact this was my
wife Joyce Holland and our daughter Carol.
Peter's shop was a Sweet shop when I first
met him as a young child at Ealing Road School.
Many is the times that I was round at his shop,
we use to play tricks on his mum by talking to
each other as follows:- I would say "Hello Pete.
Peter would reply "Hello Pete" I'll say "How are
you?". Peter say "How are you". What ever I said
Peter would say the same when he replied. This
sent his mum mad and she would tell us to shut
up and get out of the shop. We would do this time
and time again when we met people, we had great
fun doing this.
Some say they were the best years of your life. For these
youngsters Ealing Road Junior School holds many fond
memories. This picture was taken circa 1930 and shows the
pupils looking smartly dressed and ready for a day's
teaching. Peter sent this photo to the Times. Peter's
twin brother and sister Denis and Ann are pictured.
Peter commented saying "Because of the manufacturing
buildings and traffic on the nearby Great West
Road it is understandable why the school close in the early
70's.", "My brother and his twin sister enjoyed being educated
there, followed by me, six years later, finishing the same year
as World War Two started.
This picture was taken in 1974? when our grand old school
was demolished. There are now Warehouses in its place.
The school children now go to Green Dragon Infant &
Nursery School and a good school this is. They have a
lot of the old files from Ealing road and they always
like to meet old scholars from Ealing Road school.
