HISTORY OF
ST. FAITH'S CHURCH
OF BRENTFORD

St Faith's Church, Windmill Rd

The mission district of St Faith was established in 1901 by
the then curate of St Paul's in his house in Windmill rd.
The mission was to serve the growing population north of
the railway line. St Faith's church was built in 1906-7 at
a cost of £8,447 It was designed in Gothic revival style by
G F Bodley, described in his obituary as 'our leading
ecclesiastical architect', died only a fortnight after
the foundation stone was laid. John Betjeman describes
the church thus:'St Faith's display all the splendour of
Bodley in its simplicity and strength. It rise like a
great ship over the housetops and inside view from the
west end leads you naturally to the altar and up to the
roof'. The alter in St Faith's Lady Chapel was originally
in the chapel of St James's Place Westminster. It was a
gift from the Bishop of London.

FOOT NOTE:-

I (P. W. Rutt) was in the Boy Scouts, Wolf Cubs division
of the 14th St Faith's Patrol. We used to meet in the hut
at the back of the Church.
