My Memories of Greet Road

I knew a few of the people who lived in Greet Road,
because my wife Joyce lived in this road with her
Grand parents at 38, this house had a front room,
a living room with an iron grill fire-place a
kitchen with a concrete boiler for washing your
clothes, a stove for cooking and an indoor toilet.

Pat Phair nee Ilbury is in the second row,
1st on the right,
next to the girl with the umbrella up.

A letter from Pat Phair [nee Ilbury]

Hi Peter,
You will know me through Janis, I'm Dick Ilbury's neice,
Pat Phair [was Ilbury] and I grew up at No 34 Greet Road.
I remember you years ago when you were going out with Joyce
and then later seeing your daughters Pearl and Carol round
at No 38.

I'm enclosing these two photo's of Dick, the group photo is
Dick [front row, on the right - I'm sure you know] with all
his brothers and sisters and their Uncle Jack Welsh who is
on the far right. Behind Dick is my Uncle Alf who lived with
us at 34 Greet Road and on the left of Alf, with the wavy
hair is my dad Jim. This photo was taken in the back garden
of our house [34] and the occasion was the funurel of their
dad Frederick George Ilbury in August 1952. I could give you
all their names if you want them, but I wont bore you now!
With the exception of the first born, they were all born at
25 Kenley Road and all grew up there.

The other photo is Dick at the door of 25 Kenley Road, with
his son Steven who was born in 1957, Dick and his family
lived there until the whole area was demolished.

I was really fond of Dick, he had such a nice nature.

I hope you enjoy looking at these and please send them back
to me when you have finished with them.

Congratulations on the Brentford Web-site, it's really great,
even though you've got 1935 on the
Coronation Street Party photo, instead of 1952!
I LOVE IT ALL ANYWAY!
All the best
Pat
