This Whit Sunday bank holiday seemed to fly by
very quickly. As I spent the weekend before in
North Somerset with my daughter Shella and
grandchildren. They returned the visit this
weekend. I thought it would be a great idea to
have a walk over Kew Bridge with four of my
grandchildren just like I used to do when I
was their age every Bank holiday Easter and
Whit Sunday or Monday we would pack a flask
and a few ham sandwiches some nice home made
cakes and bottle's of Tizer and Cream Soda we
would set off to the fair at Kew. Along the
high Street it was dirty and smelly with the
gas works and we always got dirt in our eyes
and the buildings were dirty along the High
street. It was nice when we got to the Plough
pub because onwards it seem to get more cleaner
and brighter. As soon as you started walking
over the bridge a photographer would take
any one's photo that happened to be walking
over the bridge at that time. We often had
our photos taken. I was so excited to be going
to the fair and my niece Pearl would come along
sometimes too. There was a big carousel with
nicely painted horses with bright colourer
saddles on their backs that it made them look
so cheerful as if they were galloping along
as they went up and down with the music
that sounded out so merrily the paint was
so colourful and when the carousel went
round all the pretty colours reminded me of
my coloured spinning top. There was also a
smaller roundabout for children with little
car's and ponies. The children would sit on
them and as the roundabout went round and
round they would wave their little hands at
the people standing watching and their smiling
faces of enjoyment was a picture. The old coconut
shy was a jolly good laugh. My dad always had
the job of throwing the hard ball because he
always won us a couple of nice big coconut's
which we would enjoy eating with our picnic
which we would have sitting on Kew Green watching
the cricket. There was always the swinging
boat's that I used to have a ride on with my
sister and we would try to work the boat high
by pulling the coloured rope so that we could
have better view over the boathouse which
some how we never could see the view. And
the bumper cars I really loved going on them
with my older sister. Every one seemed to
like to bump into our car that my sister was
driving she was a good sport. Outside the boat
house there was a old man with a trilby hat on
his head and he would have a lot of colourful
furry toy monkey's on a piece of elastic joined
to a stick and every time you moved the stick
the monkey would look like he was dancing on air.
I liked the balloon man that made little animals
with balloons I thought how clever he was to be
able to do this. I had my photo taken sitting in
a car out side the old boathouse I so much wanted
to take that little green car home with me but I
had to say goodbye to it when we left to go home.
This is the actual photo that I have spoken about.
I hope you enjoy the rest
