CATHERINE WHEEL YARD
AS IT WAS
and
AS IT IS NOW
The Catherine Wheel Yard in 1911 was just one
of the many yards off both sides of the High
Street, leading to stables and workshops of all
descriptions. This yard led down to the canal,
and by two footbridges over town and Jupps
Wharves to the entrance of Brentford Dock with
the River Thames. Much altered it is now called
Catherine Wheel Road. In 1911 the building on the
left was a shoeing forge run by Frederick Keevil.

My mother Edith Rutt aka Doll, used to work
for the soap factory down catherine wheel yard
in the 1930's
