BRENTFORD CANAL LOCK
AS IT WAS
and
AS IT IS NOW

photograph of Brentford Canal Lock as it was

The "first lock", 1893, looking towards the
River Thames. This is now Brentford Lock. The
bridge over the lock was demolished by floods
in 1898. In 1900 the lock house was demolished
to provide a second lock on the site. The Grand
Junction Canal, completed to Braunston in 1805,
was amalgamated with other canals in 1929, when
the name was changed to the Grand Union Canal

The Grand Union Canal looks very much as if it is
at peace, the water is calm and everything is quite.
