BRENTFORD POLICE STATION
AS IT WAS
and
AS IT IS NOW

photograph of Brentford as it was
Brentford Police Station, seen on the right c.1901. This building, opened in 1869, was in use until the present station opened in the half Acre. It was sited next to the Goat Wharf and Number 42 High Street. Brentford came within the Metropolian Police area from 1829 and the earlier station was on the corner of Town Meadow Road, later the site of the Post Office. The Flat over the white gateway on the left side of the High Street, was where my nan, Katie Harrison lived until about 1936, she then moved to Hornbeam Crescent, on Syon estate. The High Street was made of wooden tarred blocks, which were dug up during the world war II, they also removed the Tram lines, for use, in the war effort (along with all the metal fences and pots and pans etc in Brentford).
