THE GASWORKS -
RIVER VIEW
AS IT WAS,
and
AS IT IS NOW
The River Thames in 1926, looking towards
the Kew Bridge, on the left the partly
completed extension to the gas works. Gas
was first produced in Brentford in 1920
by Brentford Gas Company, which, in 1926
was taken over by the Gas Light & Coke
Company. In 1949 when gas was nationalised
the company became known as the North
Thames Gas Board.

Looking from the Kew Bridge, where the old
gas works use to be, it is returning to nature.
