THE BRENTFORD BRITISH SCHOOL
AS IT WAS,
and
AS IT IS NOW
Brentford British School was established in 1834;
c.1856 the building seen in the photograph opened.
It was situated in the High Street on the site of the
present Health Centre. The school was financed
by subscriptions raised in the town, with the
Rothschild family being large supporters from
c.1855. In 1912 the name was changed to Rothschild
School and the building continued until 1930, when
a new school opened off Boston Road, known as
Brentford Senior School. This school was used by
both boys and girls until 1968 when it became Brentford Girls School, the boys moving to Syon School.This photograph was taken C.1901, soon after the electric trams were ontroduced. The sign on th post in the gardens states "Electric Cars stop here if required". The school building was demolished c.1936 and the new Health Centre opened in 1938.
