THE BRENTFORD HOSPITAL
AS IT WAS
and
AS IT IS NOW
Brentford Cottage Hospital, The Butts, 1902.
This building at the entrance to the Butts was
acquired in 1891 as the Brentford Dispensary
Cottage Hospital and Nurses Home. The Brentford
Dispensary, founded in 1818, was situated in the
High Street, opposite St. Lawrence's Church.
The Butts building was used as the hospital
until 1928, when the purpose-built Brentford
Hospital in Boston Manor Road opened. The
money for this buildingwas raised by public
subscription. In 1977 the last patients were
transferred from the hospital and it is at
present being converted for use as an old people's home.

The trees to the left of the building,
which were young saplings when the
photographs in 1902 are now grown
into big trees.
