THE MAGISTRATES COURT
AS IT WAS
and
AS IT IS NOW

photograph of the Magistrates Court as it was The Brentford Magistrates Court c. 1910, built
as a Town Hall in 1850, replacing the recently
demolished Market House. It was never used as
a Town Hall and from 1850 part of the build was
leased for use as a police court. By 1891 one
court was inadequate and so Middlesex County
Council purchased the building, adding a second
court at the front. In 1929 because the court
house was in a dilapidated state it was renovated,
the balcony removed and the front remodelled.

This Magistrates Court is the renovated House
of 1929. I was once fined in the juvenile court at
the rear, in a little room, when about twenty of us
lads (aged 10 years old) were fined one shilling each
for playing football in the road between George and
Netley Rd to the anoyance of the local inhabitants.
We were very popular at when we got back to school.
The Policeman who had the honour of capturing us
was PC Woods, I remember him well.
