Brentford (Middlesex) - A town to remember - PHOTO OF THE MARKET PLACE
THE
MARKET PLACE
AS IT WAS
and
AS IT IS NOW
Market Place at fair time c.1905, showing extreme
right, Titus Ward, grocers, which became Boots
Chemists shop c.1910. On the left can be seen the
Three Pigeons Inn, much altered in the 19th century,
The original inn dated back to Elizabethan times and
was said to have been requented by Shakespear and
Ben Johnson. It was used as the Sessions House for
the Brentford Magistrates until the Magistrates Court
was built c.1850, The inn closed in 1906 and was used
for shops and offices until demolished in 1950.
I worked for Beacon Electronics, in the inn, in 1946,
making Radio Sets inside loudspeaker cabinets.

They demolished the old houses (mostly built of
wood) widen the High Street and moved the shops
and offices, away from the road.
