TRICO-FOLBERTH

The TRICO-FOLBERTH COMPANY
FAMOUS FOR ITS WINDSCREEN WIPERS.
The American Trico Company was established in 1919 in Buffalo.
New York State by John R Oishei. Mr Oishei's inspiration is said
to have been a minor collison with a cyclist whilst driving on a
wet night in 1916

The company's British manufacturing subsidiary was established in
Cricklewood North London, in 1928. But it transferred its business
to Brentford in 1931, to a new building on the north side of the
Great West Road, between Boston Manor Road and the Grand Union
Canal. By 1948, an initial staff of fifty had grown to seven hundred.

In the 1940 and the early 1950s Trico had a second factory in
Brentford, in Brook Lane. Both were modern, single storey buildings,
well ventilated. Canteen facilities were provided and the company
had an active Social and Athletics Club.

When Thompson & Norris transferred their corrigated case
manufacturing business to Park Royal in the late 1950s. Trico
were able to acquire their canalside factory which stood next
to the existing Trico-Folberth works on the Great west Road

The company closed its Brentford plant in1991 and the buildings
were demolished in 1993
